1. Yelp for iPhone

Yelp is the perfect application for knowing the best place to go in a city I am unfamiliar with. Originally created as a restaurant reviews application, Yelp has grown to be a full-fledged city guide equipped with detailed reviews. Searching for a good restaurant is made easy with a multitude of search options. You have the ability to use Yelp’s Monocle feature, or searching on the app’s map. Yelp is a highly recommended application for anyone. The free application makes it easy to discover a cool place in your city. While the Monocle feature could use some tweaking, Yelp as a whole runs smoothly when I need a quick search. Yelp

2. OpenTable for iPhone

If you are ever eating downtown on a weekend evening, you know that reservations are pretty much essential. Without a reservation, you can sometimes expect a wait that can be twice as long as someone with a reservation. This is when applications like OpenTable become a foodie’s sidekick. OpenTable allows you to search for restaurants in your area. Once you find the one you want to eat at, you have the ability to set your reservations directly on the application. All you have to do is provide a date, time, and the size of your party. OpenTable is an amazing alternative to having to search online or asking around for recommendations. You are always guaranteed a seat with OpenTable, available for free on the App Store today. Opentable

3. Foursquare for iPhone

If you are one of the few people who don’t know what Foursquare is all about, basically all you have to do is check in to the location you are at. This is done by searching for the location and clicking “Check-in”. So, why is it perfect for foodies? First, this application includes detailed reviews of many locations, including local restaurants. In addition, the application has a “deals” feature that allows you to take advantage of amazing specials in your area. Deals can range from free fries at Wendy’s to free appetizers and drinks at the new restaurant downtown. In addition, the free application makes it perfect for broadcasting your location. This makes it perfect for meeting up with friends. All in all, Foursquare is a perfect application for discovering amazing restaurants in your area. Foursquare

4. FoodSpotting for iPhone

Don’t you just hate it when people see an amazing dish and find it necessary to take a photo of it? If so, this application is entirely not for you and you would hate eating out with me. If you love doing this, then FoodSpotting for iPhone is going to be your best friend. The application mixes food reviews with food photo sharing into a foodie’s dream. FoodSpotting allows you to browse other people’s photos that are near you, see their review, and rate the photo. You can also find a restaurant relative to user’s photos and even upload your own photos to the application. I really love the food guides from Food Network and Travel channel stars. If you really love food, then this is application for you, enjoy! FoodSpotting

5. UrbanSpoon for iPhone

Anyone who has even been in the dilemma of trying to figure out where to eat knows the name UrbanSpoon. This website is one of the most well known restaurant review websites on the web. Now, the website is available on your iPhone. The application works by getting your location and presenting you with three ways of choosing a spot. You can browse according to cuisine, search by name, or use the famous “shake” feature. This involves shaking your iPhone device, presenting a slot machine that randomly sorts out the neighborhood, cuisine, and price range. You can shake again and again until you find the place for you. Once there, you can rate, review, call, launch maps, and even make a reservation when linked with OpenTable. If you have an iPhone, you should have Urbanspoon on there. UrbanSpoon

6. Ness for iPhone

I learned about Ness from a fellow friend and blogger of mine who also reviewed this application. Ness seems to be the visually appealing search engine of restaurants. To begin, the application gives you some sort of survey. You are given a list of random restaurants in your area to rate. Relative to this information, the application is able to give you recommendations in various cuisines. In addition, only restaurants with great ratings are shown in the application, making is more based on your tastes than the taste of others. Ness is also quite social. Restaurant ratings are increased if they are well talked about on social networking sites. Ness is one of the newer applications on the scene, so time will tell if the application sticks. You can tell for yourself by downloading the free application today from the App Store. Ness
