One such tweak which is getting a lot of media attention is the new Pixel boot animation. However, this is only available on the latest Pixel device. Luckily, the amazing developers and enthusiasts over at XDA have the solution. Thanks to Senior Member Rishi2906, the Pixel Animation is available to flash on any rooted Android device. Here is how you can get the new Pixel boot animation on your rooted Android phone. Note: You will need root for this procedure. Without it you will not be able to access the necessary system folders. Additionally, neither I nor the site are responsible for any breakage or problems with your device if you choose to do this. As with anything, use common sense and please take your time.
How to Get Google’s Pixel Boot Animation on Your Android Phone
- Head over to the thread at XDA and download the zip file for your device. You can find other versions here.
- With the file saved, rename it to “bootanimation” (without the quotations) and save it to either your SD Card or Internal Memory.
Manual Method:
With the file copied to your SD Card or Internal Memory, open a file manager that is capable of using root. Personally, I prefer Total Commander. With root permission given, find the location of where you copied the file. The easiest method is to simply copy the file and then navigate to “/system/media” and paste it. This should overwrite the existing bootanimation.zip file with your new Pixel animation file.
Then simply reboot and enjoy your new animation.
TWRP Method:
If you have managed to install TWRP, then you can use this to flash the bootanimation zip file on your Android device.
The first step is to boot into the custom recovery. To do this, first turn off your phone. Now, press and hold Volume UP + Power + Home button (this may vary according to your handset) together.
As soon as you see TWRP on your screen, release the buttons.
Tap on Install.
Locate and select the downloaded ZIP file.
Swipe to flash the ZIP file.
Restart your device. When your device restarts, you will see the Google Pixel boot animation. Following this method, you should be able to flash not just this animation, but any animation on your Android device. What is your experience with this? Have you tried it, or are you a strict non rooter for your handset? Let us know in the comments section along with any other methods you have.
